An unparalleled international Hip Hop album, STTB is a collaboration between 2 Brooklyn MCs, a French DJ/Producer and 2 Brazilian supercrews. This project was conceived and written during Say Words 2009 Skillz to Take Brazil Tour. It features beats by Frenchman ZAJAZZA, the socially conscious and lyrically dexterous rhymes of HIRED GUN (URB Next 100) & RABBI DARKSIDE (MTVs MADE), and the contributions of 2 powerhouse groups from Southern Brazil: UR$ FUNDAO (Passo Fundo) and NEGO PREGO & A LA DOS PRETOS DUCORRE (Porto Alegre).

While on a 2-week tour of Brazil, Zajazza, Hired Gun and Rabbi D rocked some serious shows and build some very significant relationships across the table of Hip Hop culture. They were invited into the barrios and homes of the members of the pre-eminent groups in Rio Grande Do Sul, sharing stages, meals, rides and studio time. This cultural exchange was documented by blog, journal, video and photo, but the most riveting product is the album itself. From the UR$ Fundao studio (built on 5 years of collective crew savings) to the middle of Bom Jesus favela (the largest favela in Rio Grande Do Sul) to a beachside makeshift studio in Florinapolis, Hired G, Rabbi D and Zajazza were furiously crafting the musical compositions that would tell the story of this trip.

In City Kid, he writes about his coming-of-age right here in Fort Greene and elsewhere, encompassing family stories, cultural analysis, and his literary and musical influences. George talks about his story and his neighborhood tonight with his friend, fellow Fort Greene resident and music and culture critic Touré.

That's right - I plan on being on stage to represent BIG with one of my favorite songs from his first album. You'll have to come if you wanna know which one.

This is it, folks. They've been practicing for months, made it past regional championships and now 12 of HHK's finest are ready to compete in the 2010 Hip Hop Karaoke Championship at Irving Plaza with special guest judges Peter Rosenberg (Hot 97), Buckshot (Black Moon) and Big Daddy Kane.

The HHK Crew is no longer selling tickets to the championship directly, but tickets are still available at the Irving Plaza box office from Noon-6:30 p.m. and at http://www.livenation.com/edp/eventId/414465

Any remaining tickets will be available at Irving Plaza starting at 8:00 p.m. Last year's event sold out shortly after doors so if you want to ensure entry, grab 'em now.

Hip-Hop Karaoke is special to me. I hit up my first Hip-Hop Karaoke last spring. It was a Biggie Tribute. The energy on stage and in the crowd was Unbelievable, as BIG might say. It was truly a spiritual experience; one of the best shows I've ever been to. The thing is, Hip-Hop Karaoke is not like regular karaoke. There is no monitor with a bouncing ball showing you the lyrics. There is simply you, the mic, a legit stage and hype man, and a crowd that loves hip-hop as much as you. And because you love it like that, you know the words by heart. The event is full of heart. It's exhilarating.

Anyways, since the Biggie Tribute I've been fortunate enough to attend a few more HHK sessions including the Brooklyn Semi-finals a couple months ago. Since then, the Manhattan semis have also taken place and on Jan 29th, the semi-finalists from both sides of the bridge will battle it out at Irving Plaza. Judges include Big Daddy Kane and Buckshot. It promises to be, well, the illest.
