Now through August: Rafael Ferrer exhibit at El Museo del Barrio

Retro/Active: The Works of Rafael Ferrer

"Curated by Deborah Cullen, Director of Curatorial Programs, El Museo del Barrio. In the late 1960s, Puerto Rican-born Rafael Ferrer became internationally renowned for his guerilla art actions in New York and Philadelphia. In the 1970s, he was known for assemblage sculptures, kayaks, and tents. Since the 1980s Ferrer’s intensely colored paintings, prints, drawings and public sculptures have reflected his intelligence, sense of humor, and Caribbean perspective. The exhibition is part of El Museo’s FOCOS series, highlighting the achievements of mature, under recognized artists."

  1. Hi,

I work with the L Magazine and we are currently gearing up to put on another Northside Festival here in NYC at the end of the month. This year they have some pretty great bands, but they are also sweetening the pot by giving out a bunch of free passes, and a brand new iPad to a lucky winner. It’s a pretty cool prize and I was thinking that maybe some of the NYC What's Poppin' readers might be interested in checking out the competition and the festival. It would be great if you can give it a shout on the blog, it’s a cool festival for NY and we are really excited about getting the word out about it this year.

You can check out all the info on the festival and the giveaways at this link (

    All the best,
